We are Responsibly Active

Bioactives for a Positive Future

We are responsibly active when it comes to preserving the beauty of nature for generations to come. This is because plants are at the core of our business and biodiversity is our reservoir to innovate. In order to protect our planet and its resources while making an active contribution to each individual along our bioactive ingredients value chain, we are aligning our actions towards more sustainable practices.

That is why we launched our new Responsibly Active program based on three pillars:

Innovating Products that Protect Natural Resources

We are responsibly active for our nature and its sustainable valorization.

Pillar 1

Empowering and Respecting People along our Value Chain

We are responsibly active for people and the conditions in which they live and work.

Pillar 2

Reducing our Climate Impact and Operational Footprint

We are responsibly active for our planet and its preservation.

Pillar 3

Our program at a glance

Meet Lucilene from our bioactives team and learn more about our Responsibly Active program. Discover the three program pillars and how we are aligning our actions towards more sustainable practices when it comes to natural resources, people and climate.

Product Highlight

Castaline® BC10133

Castaline® is an extract of organic certified leaves of chestnut trees, manually harvested in France. Since the leaves are carefully collected from young trees that do not bear fruit, their use in a cosmetic active ingredient can be considered as valorization of an agricultural by-product.

Product Highlight

Seanactiv™

Our active ingredient Seanactiv™ is based on the organic-certified marine algae fucus vesiculosus. The seaweed is harvested manually under government license, in line with good collection practices that ensure regeneration of the biomass.

Sourcing

The Rambutan Program

With our Rambutan Program, we follow strict sustainability principles, conserve resources, and support local population and partners to design a new socially and environmentally responsible supply chain.

  • Farid, EHS Engineer, BASF

Waste unfortunately can’t be avoided at every point. Today, we already valorize 98% of our waste. Therefore, we have defined 40 types of waste and recycle them according to a specific treatment.  So, we came up with a process to valorize our botanical wastes, either to be used by farmers as organic fertilizers or for the production of more than 18 MWh of green energy locally. That alone doesn’t change the world – but it equals the average yearly energy consumption of 8 people.

  • Latifa, Sales manager

Our fair trade activities ensure that the women in the cooperative receive a decent wage for their work. Thanks to this, some of them were able to support their children until they reached university and graduated. This way, the cooperatives improve conaditions and prospects not only for the women but also for their families.

  • Philippe, Raw Material Sourcing & Extraction Manager, BASF

For more than 25 years, we have been taking sustainability further, where value creation otherwise ends: From the pressed moringa seedcakes – the oil extraction’s waste – we obtain highly effective bioactives. This upcycling creates added value without consuming additional resources. Sourcing is made even more sustainable thanks to the conversion to organic farming. It ensures the use of organic manure, among other things, and thus conserves soil fertility. So, the “wonder tree” really lives up to its name!
